Will this affect assets already in my CrowdRiff library?

No, any assets added to your library before November 3, 2025, will retain their original usernames and will not be impacted by this update.

Will usernames still appear for followed accounts or my s account/s?

Yes! Usernames will continue to display for assets pulled from followed accounts and from your social account/s.

How can I pull in the username for an asset?

If your account is @mentioned in an Instagram post—such as when someone responds to a rights request—CrowdRiff will automatically receive the username and update it on the asset throughout the platform.

What happens if I publish an asset without a username?

If you publish an asset to Share Links, Media Hub, Galleries, Maps, or Photo Walls and the username is not available, the asset will display without a username or username indicator.

What about content from blocked accounts?

Due to the change in Instagram data access, some assets from blocked usernames may still appear in your library labeled as “Instagram User,” since CrowdRiff won’t receive the username data from Meta.

How can I manually add a username?

To manually add a username in CrowdRiff:

  1. Open the asset.

  2. Navigate to the Licensing tab.

  3. Click the pencil icon to enter edit mode.

  4. Enter the username and verify it using the link to the Instagram profile.

  5. Click Save.

Once saved, the username will function like any other—displaying in the asset grid, Galleries, Maps, Photo Walls, Share Links, and Media Hub, and it will be searchable in CrowdRiff.

What are the best practices for managing usernames moving forward?

  • Add business or creator accounts to your followed accounts in CrowdRiff. This ensures usernames are included automatically when new assets are ingested from those accounts.

  • Manually add usernames for any assets you plan to use so they display and are searchable.

  • Use the Instagram post shortcut to confirm the username before initiating a rights request.

  • When manually approving rights, check for a username and add it if it’s missing before using the asset.
