Setting up Single Sign-On (SSO) with Okta

CrowdRiff supports Single Sign-On (SSO) with Okta, giving users access to the platform using a single set of login credentials. To complete setup, you'll collect a few credentials from Okta and send them to the CrowdRiff support team via email.

Before you begin

Ensure you have a configured Okta account with CrowdRiff added as an app integration. If you already have SSO with Okta and want to enable it with your CrowdRiff platform, reach out to your CSM before starting.

How do I collect my Okta credentials?

You'll need to gather four items from Okta: your Client ID, Client Secret, Issuer address, and Metadata URI. Keep a separate document open to paste each value as you go.

Collect your Client ID and Client Secret:

  1. In Okta, go to Applications and select the CrowdRiff app integration.

  2. Open the General tab, copy the Client ID, and paste it in your document.

  3. Scroll down to Client Secrets, copy the Secret, and paste it in your document.

Collect your Issuer and Metadata URI:

  1. In the left navigation menu, select Security then API.

  2. Under Authorization Servers, select the server associated with CrowdRiff.

  3. Copy the Issuer address and paste it in your document.

  4. Copy the Metadata URI and paste it in your document.

Once done, label each item. Your document should look similar to this:

How do I send my credentials to CrowdRiff?

Once you've collected all four credentials, send them to the CrowdRiff support team by sending us a message or email.

  1. Copy the credentials from your document into an email.

  2. Include your organization's email domain (e.g. @crowdriff.com, @destinationtoronto.org). SSO setup requires this domain and is not supported for domains outside your organization.

  3. Send the email to [email protected] with the subject line: SSO Integration (Your Organization Name).

❗Heads up: Make sure your IT department has provisioned access to all CrowdRiff users in your organization through the Okta platform before setup is complete.

How do I sign in after SSO is enabled?

The CrowdRiff support team will notify you once the integration is active. After that, sign in using your Okta credentials.

  1. Go to the CrowdRiff sign-in page at http://id.crowdriff.com.

  2. Enter your email and click Continue.

You'll be redirected to your Okta domain to authenticate. Once verified, Okta sends you back to CrowdRiff automatically.

❗Heads up: After SSO is configured, you can no longer sign in to CrowdRiff using your original CrowdRiff credentials.

Common issues

If you receive an error logging in to CrowdRiff, check your Okta configuration before contacting support. The most common causes are:

  • An Okta user does not have permission to access CrowdRiff. Ask your IT administrator to add that user within Okta.

  • A user is assigned in Okta but does not exist in CrowdRiff. To check, go to Menu then Users in CrowdRiff. If the user is not listed, select Invite to Platform.
