What's the difference between Maps and Itineraries?
Both display places on an interactive map, but they serve different visitor needs.
Maps let visitors browse a collection of places and decide what interests them (for example, "here are 30 restaurants in our city"). Use Maps when your visitor is deciding what to do.
Itineraries guide visitors through a curated experience in a specific order (for example, "here's how to spend 48 hours in our city"). Use Itineraries when you want to lay out a plan for them to follow, like a weekend trip, a brewery trail, a road trip route, or a self-guided walking tour.
How do I create an itinerary?
Go to Build > Itineraries.
Click +Create New.
Add an itinerary description and image.
Add your sections, stops, and map pins.
Click Customize to adjust colours, fonts, map style, markers, and appearance.
How are Itineraries organized?
You build an itinerary using three levels, from broadest to most specific:
Sections break the itinerary into groups, either by day (Day 1, Day 2), by theme (Brewery Trail, Scenic Hikes, Downtown Eats) or by neighbourhood. Each section has its own headline and description, so you can present multiple trails or themed routes within a single itinerary.
Stops are the destinations within each section, such as "Golden Gate Bridge" Each stop has its own title, description, cover image, and a numbered marker on the map, so visitors can see the intended order at a glance.
Map pins mark specific points of interest within a stop, and each pin can carry its own assets from your CrowdRiff library. For example, a stop at a large state park could have separate pins for the visitor center and a trailhead.
How can I build an itinerary faster?
CrowdRiff includes several tools to speed up setup:
Import from a URL: Paste a link from your website (or any site), and CrowdRiff reads the page, creates your sections, and places stops on the map for you. You can edit everything from there.
AI-generated descriptions: When you add a stop, its description and website are pulled in automatically.
Drag and drop: Reorder stops and sections however you want.
Flexible pin placement: Place pins by searching for a location, entering an address, or dropping a pin anywhere on the map.
How do I share or embed an itinerary?
You can share an itinerary as a hosted page or embed it directly into your own site:
Share a CrowdRiff-hosted page: Click Share > Copy link. No setup on your site is required.
Embed on a blog post or webpage: Click Share > Get embed code, then paste the code where you want the itinerary to appear.
